Grady at 5 months

We happened to be at the doctor today to recheck his ears so the weight is accurate.  He only gained about 5oz in the last two weeks, which makes me kind of sad.  But, as my mom said he is moving a lot more, and rolling over and standing more so he's just probably burning more energy.

He's a cute little guy.  He has a temper on him though.  When he gets mad he lets you know.  I think it's second child syndrome that he has to be louder in order to get attention or something.

This outfit that you see him in is a used 9 months.  Which to me just means it may have shrank some in the washing but it's still 9 months.  He seems quite big to me.  But with G I never really put him in outfits that were too big or anything, and with Chalupa I've just sort of said what do I have that's in season and clean?  Here we go!  Oh wait it says 12 months ... oh well!  Roll up the sleeves!

So at the doctor today I told him that Chalupa is only having a "dirty" diaper about once every 7-10 days.  The doctor did not seem phased.  Well doc it phases me!  And I don't think Chalupa likes it much either.  So we're upping our solid foods from the tummy and intestine sticking oatmeal to prunes.  Because I really feel bad for the guy and it can't feel good!  He didn't hate it and he didn't love it.  He didn't eat a ton, just a bit for practice.

Once he started fussing of course I stopped. I look back at the first picture in the bumbo of him trying to eat and leaning his head to the left ... yeah that's because of the ear infection, smart lady.  Oh well. For the interested the ear infection is cleared up.

I also talked to the doc about tummy sleeping and he is opposed.  He appears to be opposed to me getting sleep at all really, because he pretty much said this should only last a couple of months.  Yes doc, I know that, but I can't get two hours of sleep a night for a couple of months.  My husband might kill me and that's not fair to my three year old.  Really, the doc said no co-sleeping (but move him to our room so I'm not walking as far !?!? as if that's the problem), no tummy sleeping, and CIO only for 10 minutes.  Uh, doc ... do I just sleep standing up holding him?  Or what?

Don't get me wrong he's a good doctor.  But he can't offer any of the above (tummy, co-sleeping, CIO) due to liabilities and I get that.  And he didn't try to, really, offer any advice, he just seemed to smile at me and say, "sucks to be you."

So we press on. In the end, the buck stops with me and I've got to make the call.  And from where I sit, getting the family rest is key.  I'm going to keep offering the solids once a day, up his milk intake to 2/3 hours during the day instead of the 4 hours that he "should" be able to do by this age and see what shakes out.  Oh and probably still let him sleep on his tummy.  Lewis and I discussed it, again, and we're still okay.

I can't get over how big he is.  Or how blue his eyes are.  Or that he's 5 months old and just learning so much.  He really loves his brother and watching G play.  He will be so much happier in a month or two when he can roll or crawl and interact socially a bit with him.
